A notoriously controversial, explicitly racist, but landmark adult film masterpiece, Let Me Tell Ya Bout Black Chicks, despite being out of circulation for over a decade, is still praised as influential, ground-breaking and historically important. Written by Antonio Passolini (as Johnny Jump-Up) and Gregory Dark, the film delves into racial stereotypes like no adult production before or after it, tossing in every conceivable African-American generalization into a near seventy-minute script, that seems intent on offending mass audiences.
“Black Chicks” has garnered much of its criticism for showing a double penetration of a black woman by two angry KKK members. Dressed in full Klan attire, the two Klansmen, affecting Southern accents, growl, “Let’s fuck this darky!” Thus, setting in motion one of the most controversial scenes in adult film history. It was this kind of insensitive imagery that helped push this film out of major circulation and into the realm of peer-to-peer collector territory. Dark’s signature directorial-style is quite prevalent throughout the film including use of quick edits, rapid camera movement, loopy angles, distinct artistic sets, anomalous wardrobe pieces and a pounding punk score from composer Johnny Powers. Dark’s innovative style would have a formative influence on future films and has had a recognized impact on upcoming directors like Extreme Associates owner, Rob Black. Interestingly, Black, in his controversial film Cellar A Whole New Store-y, pays direct homage to Gregory Dark and Let Me Tell Ya Bout Black Chicks, in particular, by having actress Mila Shegol, dressed in a Klan outfit, be accosted by two angry black men – including a savage double penetration. This ‘turn-around’ reference is not lost on fans of adult films.
The set-up for this film is pretty simple; Black Sapphire, Lady Stephanie, Purple Passion, Sahara and Cherry Layme play a group of house maids, who sit around and talk it up while on their break. The chatter ranges from innocuous banter about black men having bigger dicks to down and dirty discussions of sex.
The first encounter Purple Passion describes involves implied pedophilia. “One day I’m working as a maid for some rich white family and one day I spot the kid getting his dick sucked by his nanny,” Purple Passion says to the girls. Since VCA is known for editing their movies, and taking a generally PC stand regarding their porn, there’s little hope that this film will ever be re-released on DVD.
